Download WordPress 2.6 Beta 1

The latest WP version WordPress 2.6 Beta 1 is now available for download and wordpress developers, testers and early adopters can play with the new features, report bugs and suggest improvements.

The new features have already been revealed and here are some new features I particularly like

• Post Revisioning – This is particularly useful if you modify or write posts in multiple windows or collaborate with multiple authors and end up accidentally overwriting the content. WordPress now stores a history of all your posts in a timeline and you are protected from accidental changes.


• Faster Admin page loads by caching of static files with Gears. Does the forever loading image upload window irritate you – now no more. Google Gears enables more powerful web applications, by adding new features to your web browser letting web applications (interact naturally with your desktop, store data locally in a fully-searchable database or run JavaScript in the background to improve performance.)


• Theme previewing – If you have a blog on WordPress.com, you would have seen how easy it is to preview a new theme as applied to your site, before it is actually selected and goes live. In self hosted wordpress sites, the moment you click a theme, it is applied to your site and goes live, Though this theme testdrive plugin can fix issue, its great to see it as a part of core wordpress.
  


• Remote publishing disabled – Atom Publishing Protocol and the variety of XML-RPC protocols are now disabled by default as they expose a potential to be a security risk. Hooray to a more secure WordPress.


• Custom Avatars - Its really annoying to see those empty gravatar images when the commentor has not uploaded a gravatar. Now WordPress can source an alternative like Identicon, MonsterID, or Wavatars.� Anyway if you still havent got a Gravatar, get it now.
